Firefox 3: Firefox 3 RC 2 Portable Edition Ready for Download
I try to keep my laptop as light weight as I can by using portable, or USB-friendly, applications as much as possible. I’ve seen Firefox 3 Portable in action and I’m pretty impressed. I’m going to hold out a little longer before I start using it, just because I rely so much on my Firefox plugins. I want to give developers some time to update their plugins, which aren’t guaranteed to work with FF3.

Official Google Blog: Google Sites now open to everyone
There are so many options out there now to design websites without code that coding seems quaint and old fashioned at times. I’m beginning to wonder how important it is to have a domain of your own now. [www.yourname.com] Are people getting used to just clicking a link without remembering the link name? What are your thoughts?

Getting started with Google Sites is easy. You can create different types of pages from scratch with the click of a button, and you can embed documents, calendars, photos, videos and gadgets directly into those pages.

Speech Recognition: Control Your PC with Your Voice
To be honest, I’ll be dragged kicking and screaming into Windows Vista, but I realize that there are people out there who use (and enjoy) Vista. If you are one of those, this freeware tool from Microsoft might boost your productivity (or it might just boost your frustration instead.)
I’m used speech recognition software on my tablet PC’s for years. If you’re lucky enough to work in a quiet environment, it’s awesome. This article by Adam Pash is great. He walks you through the software, complete with screencasts. Now, shouting at your Vista PC can actually be productive!

Make your audio and video files executable without a media player - Download Squad
This is an excellent no-frills app. Another of those does-one-thing-but-does-it-well applications that I like. You drop in a music file and a .exe comes out the other end. Open the .exe and (surprise) it plays your music. Good stuff!
