Rather than use the mouse and the Paste Special button, you can simply paste the text, highlight it, and hit Ctrl+Space to remove the formatting and convert the selection into plain text.
I do a fair amount of copying from Microsoft documents into HTML forms and documents and I’m constantly battling armies of invisible characters that throw my formatting into absolute chaos. (Okay, maybe it’s not that bad, but it’s certainly an annoyance!)
