Hive Five: Five Best Antivirus Applications via Lifehacker
telecommatt | June 7, 2008Hive Five: Five Best Antivirus Applications
I’m a huge Lifehacker fan, and I’ve spent the afternoon catching up on my Lifehacker feed over an apricot oolong tea. I’m also a huge fan of not having viruses, spyware, malware, or generally any other kind of “-ware” that I didn’t personally install on my PC. In this recent article, they polled their users and came up with the top five freeware or shareware antivirus apps.
I’ve added a few thoughts of my own, and as you can see, I’ve found that the best solution is not to rely on just one application to protect your PC from online threats. I actually use three different free or open source applications that I run periodically. Although some say that it’s not good to have more than one antivirus app installed, so far I’ve seen no problems. And I think you’ll find that you hear this most often from the makers of large commercial suites such as Norton.
In addition, I also run anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software. How do you protect your PC? What applications to you rely on? Did you purchase your software or do you use free software?
